First Grade had a very exciting visitor during Social Studies yesterday!

Officer Martinez of the Orem Police Department visited our classroom 

and 

brought with him a POLICE DOG!  

Ask your child all about our visit and the other community helpers they have learned about this month!

Today we had two very important 

COMMUNITY HELPERS

visit our classroom for 

Social Studies!

We learned today what it meant to be a "Good Citizen".

The Traveling Journal

Our Language Arts Class will begin using "The Traveling Journal" this weekend.

Each week I will pick one child to bring home "The Traveling Journal".  

When it is your child's turn they will be given the opportunity to keep a Journal about the events of their weekend and then share it with the class on Monday.

Accompanying "The Traveling Journal" will be a writing buddy by the name of "Snowball".  Snowball can accompany your child where ever they go that weekend and will help the child remember to record the events of that day in his/her journal.

Tuesday: Crazy hair and socks day "Sock it Drugs!" 

8:30-9:45 Special guest speaker Dr. Kevin Nelson with Primary Children’s Hospital will talk about the dangers of smoking)

*Children will take Essays/Pictures home to complete (“I say No to Drugs”) to bring back on Thursday.

Wednesday: Wear Boots "Give Drugs the Boot!"

1pm-2pm – Special guest speaker Orem PD Officer Clements will talk about the importance of staying away from drugs.

Thursday: Wear shades--"Shade out Drugs!"

Essays/Pictures due

Friday: Spirit Day--Navy Shirts, teachers included--all school picture!

Bring a stuffed animal to hug--"Hugs not Drugs!"

After School Party and Awards: (3:20-4pm – Awards given to one child per grade for essays/pictures)
