In Writers Workshop in April we will be working on Elements in a Story:

In Guided Reading we will be working on the reading skill:

Summarizing

Creating a Cereal Box Book Report gives students the opportunity to practice what they are learning.

Please choose a "just right book" to read for the book report.  A "just right book" is a book at your child's reading level.

We will be creating a Cereal Box Book Report as a class so the students will be familiar with the process before you begin your Book Report at home.

We will begin presenting Cereal Box Book Reports on Monday, April 27th.

Where is my child's Guided Reading Book?

Assessment Week

3/16 - 3/20 is Assessment Week in the 

Emergent Reader Class

During this week your child will NOT be bringing home a Guided Reading Book for repeated readings nightly.

Quarterly Assessing will take the place of Guided Reading for this week only.  What does that mean?  

Your child will receive assessing in the following areas:

1.  Phonics

2.  Word Family Recognition

3. Sight Word Recognition

4.  Reading Level Assessment - Running Records

5.  Writing Sample

I use this data to drive my instruction to help your child succeed.  I look forward to sharing this information with you at our Parent Teacher Conference next week.

Nightly reading is still the expectation.  Please ask your child to read on Raz-Kids this week nightly.
