First Grade Science

First Grade is learning about
MACRO INVERTEBRATES
in
Macro invertebrates are organisms that are large (macro) enough to be seen with the naked eye and lack a backbone (invertebrate). They inhabit all types of running waters, from fast flowing mountain streams to slow moving muddy rivers. Examples of aquatic macro invertebrates include insects in their larval or nymph form, crayfish, clams, snails, and worms
We will be using all of our senses to experience these MACRO INVERTEBRATES
We will smell and eat CRAYFISH
and MUSSELS
We will conduct a WORM DIG and your children will be coming home with their very own WORM
Macro invertebrates are very important indicators of water pollution.....We will be employing the scientific method while conducting our own experiments and creating bar graphs to represent our findings!

Ask your child tonight what his or her favorite Macro invertebrate is!
